Jana Koželská and Pavel Ptáčník received the Olga Havel Award 1999.
The Olga Havel Award was given to Jana Koželská and Pavel Ptáčník on the 5th of May 1999, at the National Museum in Prague. The Award – a bronze sculpture made by Olbram Zoubek “Encouragement”, in the presence of Václav Havel, was awarded by the president of the Board of Directors Dana Němcová.
Jana Koželská, née Pliczková, was born in Česká Lípa. She used to be a programmer. In 1986, she got severely ill, and as a reason of it in 1990 established a club for oncological patients - Arcus Česká Lípa. Currently, she is chairman of the Civic Association Arcus Onko Centrum, and organizes projects for prevention and help for oncological patients of national importance. Each month she publishes a Bulletin with information for women with cancer. In February 2000, she signed the Paris chart against cancer. She has two children, Anička and Václav. She has been a member of the SKOK commission since 2001.
Pavel Ptáčník was born in Lomeček near Kutná Hora. He used to work as a librarian at the Library and printer for blind people in Prague. He is married and has two children, Jan and Michal. He works as a lawyer at the Governmental Committee for handicapped people. Pavel also takes part on legislative procedures in favour of handicapped people. He was awarded for his effort to support non-profit non-governmental organizations, which provide social services.
