The Olga Havel Award 2001

Anica Dvořáková was the laureate of the Olga Havel Award 2001.

The Olga Havel Award was given to Anica Dvořáková on the 14th of May 2001, at the monastery of St. Anežka in Prague, for long-term help provided to citizens with hearing defects in the Club of deaf people in Prague 5, which she established in 1990. The Award – bronze sculpture made by Olbram Zoubek “Encouragement” – was handed over by chairman of the Board of Directors Dana Němcová.

President of the Republic Václav Havel, who was present at the event, congratulated everyone.

Anica Dvořáková is chairman of the Czech Club of deaf people. When she was a child, she got partly deaf, and enjoyed an active life of a person who, regardless of her handicap, remains committed to helping others, provides them with information, and makes an effort to improve the quality of their lives. In 1990, she got completely deaf. In that time she established the Czech Club of deaf people and began organizing courses of lip-reading. She tried hard to persuade employees of the Czech Television to start using closed captioning in case of News and quality Films. In 1995, she finally achieved her goal. Mrs. Anica Dvořáková catches others´ attention with her outstanding character and strenuousness. It´s not negligible, that she does all the work with her husband voluntarily.
