Jiří Šedý was the laureate of the Olga Havel Award 2002.
The Olga Havel Award 2002 was given to Jirí Šedý on the 6th of May 2002 at Brožíkova hall of the Old Town town hall, for helping to raise and educate kids with mental handicap, and his literary work.
This 26 years old man with Down syndrome is the author of three publications ("Czech way of Thinking", "A Bit of Tenderness" and "Sensitiveness of the Colourful Sun"). Jiří and his mom Vlasta have established the Association in order to help handicapped children in Hlinsko. Since 1998 he´s worked at the Children´s Centre in Nový Jičín, where he was helping handicapped children. He and his mom helped families with children with Down syndrome to develop their skills and lead them towards benefiting others.
The Olga Havel Award – bronze sculpture made by Olbram Zoubek “Encouragement” – was handed over by chairman of the Board of Directors Dana Němcová.
